Kuantan - Balok Beach

Kuantan - Balok Beach

Balok Beach north of Kuantan is by many considered as the best windsurfing spot in Malaysia.

At the south end, the beach is quite strait and facing east resulting in on-shore or cross/on-shore conditions during the North East monsoon.

Moving further north, the beach is gradually curving out towards the sea to form a bay facing south-east. During the NE monsoon, the conditions are thus gradually changing into cross-shore (and sometimes cross/off-shore) the further north you go.

The beach is generally quite shallow as can be seen from the pictures below that are taken from Duta Village Beach Resort at the middle part of the beach.

There are several resorts on the 15km beach, and some are windsurfing friendly while others are not. On my Chinese new year visit 2004, I stayed at Swiss-Garden Resort, but they did not offer any equipment storage, so I kept my gear at the Duta Village Beach Resort (200m further north) where one of Malaysia's "legendary" windsurfers (Leo Leow) is running a sea-sport center (the resort is also known to host the Monsoon Madness).

The pictures below are taken at the Duta Village Beach Resort.
